BUFFALO, N.Y. — A Williamsville couple is celebrating this Christmas with an extraordinary gift: the adoption of their niece after years of foster parenting. Zabrina Reich and Frank Jacobi officially became the legal parents of 5-year-old Elliana Jacobi, who couldn’t wait to join their loving family.

Five years ago, on Christmas Eve, Zabrina and Frank welcomed Elliana into their home to provide care and support. Since then, Elliana has become an integral part of their family, even serving as an older sister to their daughter Francesca. Determined to give Elliana the best possible childhood, Zabrina and Frank became foster parents to ensure her well-being.

It became evident early on that [Elliana] would be staying with us forever, Zabrina explained. So, in order to have the highest standing, and to put her in the best position possible, we became foster parents.

The couple endured years of court dates, patiently awaiting the opportunity to make Elliana’s adoption official. Finally, this December, their long-awaited moment arrived. Erie County Child and Family Services facilitated the adoption, bringing joy to Elliana’s family and the agency in their commitment to finding loving foster parents for other children in need.

We definitely do not have enough certified, qualified, and available foster parents in this area, said Mia Clark, Director of Family Preservation at Erie County Child and Family Services. Clark expressed hope that Zabrina and Frank’s story will inspire others to consider becoming foster parents for vulnerable children in the community.

Zabrina and Frank exemplify the kind of nurturing and supportive environment that Child and Family Services aims to provide for countless children. Although Elliana is their niece by blood, Zabrina and Frank now proudly call her their daughter.

I would say it’s the greatest Christmas present ever! exclaimed Zabrina.

Thrilled with her new parents, Elliana couldn’t contain her excitement, declaring, Mommy is the best Christmas gift ever! And Daddy.

This year, the holiday season holds special significance for the family as they celebrate their first Christmas together as a legally recognized and united family. The love and dedication displayed by Zabrina and Frank serve as an inspiration to others, reminding us all of the importance of nurturing and supporting children in need.

As we approach the close of 2023, this heartwarming story reminds us of the power of love, family, and the remarkable impact of foster care. Zabrina and Frank’s journey reflects the transformative power of adoption, offering hope and inspiration to families worldwide.

This adoption serves as a reminder that there is a critical need for more foster parents in our community and around the world. Organizations like Erie County Child and Family Services are working tirelessly to find caring homes for children who deserve a brighter future. Their dedication highlights the difference that individuals can make by opening their hearts and homes to those in need.

In this season of love and giving, Zabrina, Frank, and Elliana are shining examples of the incredible bonds that can form through foster care and adoption. As we celebrate the holidays, let this heartwarming story inspire us all to consider how we can make a positive impact in the lives of vulnerable children.

Ultimately, Zabrina and Frank’s love and commitment have given Elliana the ultimate gift—a forever family. With their hearts full of love, they embark on this new chapter together, celebrating the true spirit of Christmas: the gift of unconditional love and belonging.
